Winter is creeping in thru the windowsills and under the doors every evening, and I am enjoying decorating my first house for winter. This house was built to be decorated for winter. It reminds me so much of Orchard House, but my own. I am still surprised with how functional it is for us. We've been here 4 months and it's home. I can't imagine living anywhere else.
I wanted to share with you a way I decorated my staircase for winter. I am planning on spinning up a green handspun garland of sorts to wrap around the banister (like evergreen, but kid-friendly). I simply love the way this little light installation looks. Here is how I made it.
I have a pretty small staircase, so I only needed one of the below listings (I used warm white, but they have many colors to choose from) from Amazon. I placed the battery pack at the bottom of the stairs between the first two rungs, and so far my children haven't found it. Then I began weaving over/under/over back and forth up and down from the bottom to the top and back down again - using the staircase as my "warp". I kept the wire loose enough to give it some drape, and wrapped it twice around each end to keep it from sliding.
Just thought I'd share this fun, simple way to decorate for winter. I absolutely love these lights and I ordered several shorter sets today to use around the house.
